Horizon Europe Health Calls 2027: €528.2 million for research and innovation

Explore €528.2 million in Horizon Europe health funding, the 2027 application deadlines and what to check before preparing your proposal.

€528.2 million in planned funding is available across two Horizon Europe health calls opening on 29 October 2026. They cover 14 topics, with opportunities for companies and research organisations developing new treatments, medical technologies and healthcare solutions.

The first application deadline for both calls is 17 February 2027.

What do the calls cover?

HORIZON-HLTH-2027-01 includes €341.6 million across 10 single-stage topics, covering areas such as infectious diseases, climate and health, independent living, and medication safety.

HORIZON-HLTH-2027-02-two-stage includes €186.6 million across four topics:

  • Healthcare interventions for non-communicable diseases.
  • Clinical trials for neurodegenerative diseases.
  • AI-based biomarkers to predict disease progression and treatment response.
  • Portable diagnostic tools for testing close to the patient.

Each topic sets out a specific challenge and the results projects are expected to achieve.

Which companies could apply?

Depending on the topic, these Horizon Europe health funding opportunities could be relevant to:

  • Biotech and pharmaceutical companies developing treatments or working on infectious and chronic diseases.
  • MedTech and diagnostics companies developing medical devices and testing tools.
  • Digital health and AI companies working on disease monitoring, predictive biomarkers or treatment response.
  • Companies developing solutions for independent living or addressing health risks linked to climate change.

Both SMEs and larger companies can explore potential roles, subject to each topic’s participation rules. Start by considering what your company could contribute, such as a technology, research expertise or experience testing solutions in practice.

How does the application process work?

For single-stage topics, applicants submit a full proposal by 17 February 2027.

For two-stage topics, an initial, shorter proposal is due on 17 February 2027. Selected applicants are then invited to submit a full proposal by 16 September 2027.

Even at the first stage, you need a clear project idea and an explanation of how it addresses the topic.

What should you check before preparing a proposal?

First, read the topic’s scope and expected outcomes. Your project needs to address the specific problem described and explain how it will deliver the requested results.

Then consider your partners. Depending on the topic, a project may need technology developers, researchers, clinical partners or organisations that can help test and use the solution. Identify what your team can deliver and where you need additional expertise.

Finally, check the eligibility rules, project requirements and expected funding per project. The €528.2 million is spread across 14 topics and multiple projects, so review the budget for the topic that fits your idea.
